The Importance of Irreverence

Some words of wisdom for you all:

“If you are going to eat pork, make it good and fat.” (Yiddish Proverb)

“If I knew I was going to live so long, I’da taken better care of myself.”
(Toots Shor, famous boxer and nightclub owner)

“Giving up smoking and drinking and philandering doesn’t make you live longer –it just seems longer.” (Attributed to an English comedian of the 1950’s”)

It is, I contend, vitally important to incorporate this attitude into our being –into our weltanschauung– if we want to develop into a reasonable human being.

We will return to this important theme: it has, I believe, great significance for a healthy post 9.11 view of life.
And remind me to give my brief disquisition on Mayor “…and soon to be President” Michael Bloomberg’s recent statement on “fear of terrorism v. road accident deaths”.
SOON TO BE PRESIDENT??? Oh, did I say that….
